Cajamarca is a colorful andean city with a rich historical past; it is a gorgeous region where the Incas built fine palaces and temples. Cajamarca was one of the biggest cities in the Inca Empire and was here where the last Inca ruler was taken prisoner and eventually executed by Spanish conquerors. Long before the Incas invaded these lands, in Cajamarca flourished various cultures that left behind many remains, among them standout the ancient burial site of Otuzco, an array of niches carved out into the rocks, to the west of Cajamarca you can find Cumbe Mayo, a well engineered pre-Inca channel, considered the oldest man-made construction in South America. In addition visitors may also visit the hot thermal baths.
