Chicchitara Carving Rocks at the palpa valley

Description:

This tour might be done either early in the morning or in the afternoon. The archaeological place that we will visit is located in the city of Palpa, some 40 minutes away from Nazca.
We will drive to the north across a desert plateau known as the Pampas. On the way we will stop at the Mirador, a metal tower from where it is possible to observe two of the famous Nazca Lines (The Hands and The Tree). Later on we will continue our trip till reach the city of Palpa where the 4000 years old petroglyphs are situated. The ancient petroglyphs are spread over a narrow valley on the way up to the Andes. Here there many sections that are very well known by our guides. Our local guide will show you first the famous rock where are carved three ancient priests. This representation is known as the Rock of the 3 Ages. It is undoubtedly one of the best attractions of the zone. Afterwards we will keep moving uphill to see another section where we will find more figures. Among them, we will find a nice representation of a Andean Cat and a huge flat stone, on which are carved snakes with two heads. Then we will climb a little hill where there are more interesting figures. Finally we will visit the last section, which is full of carving rocks. Here you may wander around and discover by yourself many other petroglyphs. Afterwards we will return to Nazca.

• On this tour you must bring light clothing, as the weather in Palpa used to be very hot, especially in summer time (from December to March) when temperatures can reach 40º C / 104 ºF sometimes.
• We suggest to bring sun block to avoid sun burning, a hat, a bottle of water and sun glasses.
