City Tour of lima

Description:

Mystery Peru invites you to know the highlights of the city of Lima, in a tour that will take you from its pre-hispanic past to the present days. Many years ago, long before the Incas ruled on these lands, Lima had already been inhabited by small tribes that developed along the banks of the generous Rimac River. Many buildings and temples endure still today, such as La Huaca Pucllana, a great archaeological complex that had its heydays around 300 AC. During our tour to this pre-Inca shrine, we will visit with our local guide the most important sectors of La Huaca Pucllana, and will learn about the cultural evolution of the men that thrived on these lands, as well as about their great religious beliefs on the Peruvian coast. We will also visit a local museum located at the archaeological zone, in which we will see human remains and ancient artefacts found at the ruins. Afterwards, we will drive towards the Historic Centre of Lima, where we will visit its great Plaza de Armas, where the conqueror Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima in 1535, with the name of “The City of Kings”. At this place we will see the old architecture from those colonial times, as well as the Government Palace, Lima’s City Hall, and the Archbishop Palace. Among the most important modern buildings we will visit the Museum of Banco Central de Reserva, where it is possible to see ancient pieces of gold, textiles, and ceramics, from the different cultures that flourished in Peru. Later on we will visit the Convent of San Francisco, a magnificent architectural work, built around XVII. During our visit, we will see its main Cloister, a gorgeous patio decorated with Sevillan tiles and its great library. Our visit continues at the subterranean chambers or catacombs, which where used as the main burial site in the colonial era. We will finish our tour, visiting the modern side of Lima, driving through the Olive Grove of San Isidro and the residential zone of Miraflores, where we will make our final stop at the Larco Mar shopping centre, a nice spot that offers a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, and also offers at its shops nice souvenirs, in which standout fine textiles made of Alpaca and Vicuña wool.
