Pachacamac was one of the largest religious centres on the Peruvian Coast. It is located at the south of Lima, some 30 kms away, virtually at the foot of the Pacific Ocean. According to archaeologist Pachacamac was the most important pilgrimage centre in ancient Peru, and at its glorious days the place received hundreds of people from all over Peru. Pachacamac contains various pyramids, temples and large plazas, where visitors can enjoy a pleasant walking while exploring the site. The sanctuary also offers magnificent views from the tallest pyramid of the Pacific Ocean as well as of the Lurin Valley nearby. In addition, visitors can visit the Museum of Pachacamac located inside the archaeological complex, which displays ancient remains found at the zone.

Mystery Peru invites you to visit the Sanctuary of Pachacamac, a magnificent archaeological complex built approximately 1800 years ago, a religious place worshiped by various pre-Inca cultures and the Incas. According to the archaeologist and historians Pachacamac was the centre of the most important deity of the Peruvian Coast, a great pilgrimage place where people from all over the coast used to go in order to pay homage to the greatest Pachacamac God, bringing along wonderful offerings and to consult at the oracle what the future would hold for them.
Our excursion to the ruins of Pachacamac starts with the collection of our customers from their hotels in Lima; afterwards we will travel on a tourist bus to the south of Lima for about 30 kms. On the way, our local guide will give you an introduction about the history of Lima and will also talk about important aspects of modern Lima. After some 40 minutes, we will arrive at the ruins of Pachacamac. In order to get better understanding of this important archaeological site, we will visit first the Pachacamac Museum, which is located at the entrance of the ruins. At this museum we will be to see various ancient relics found at the site during archaeological excavations. Among the remains, we will see various decorated ceramics, textiles and carving woods representing Pachacamac God. Afterwards we will leave the museum and will start to explore the site with our local guide. During our walking through the sanctuary we will visit its most important pyramids, in which stands out the north pyramid, which has a truncated shape and allows from its top amazing views of the Lurin Valley nearby and the Pacific Ocean. From the top you can also see the large plazas the Incas built to received hundred of pilgrims who venerated this god. On our tour we will also visit the Acllahuasi temple or the house of Mamaconas (name given to a particular group of women, sent from Cusco on other important cities to come to the place and take care of the religious ceremonies and the production of fine textiles for the nobility). Our excursion includes a short visit to the traditional neighbourhood of Barranco.
