Travel on private vehicle to the beautiful valley of Chicama and visit one of the most incredible archeological discoveries of all time “The shrine of el brujo” (the wizard). Explore with our local guide this fascinating sacred shrine of the Moche culture and admire the beauty of walls covered with friezes on high relief, showing terrifying scenes of warriors and decapitated prisoners. Here you could also see the grave of La Dama de Cao, the remains of a young lady from the Moche elite, who was embalmed with her own ornaments and gold sacred symbols, silver and beautiful stones. In our trip we will also visit the small town of Magdalena of Cao, where we will have the opportunity to see handy crafts and to have a taste of chicha de jora.

09:00 h. You will be picked up from your hotel at the city of Trujillo by our driver and representative guide; afterwards we will aboard our private vehicle and leave northern direction to the valley of Chicama. The archeological complex is approximated 60 kilometers from the city of Trujillo, over the right side of the Chicama River, in front of Pacific Ocean, in the district of Magdalena of Cao. After going through green farming areas of sugar cane plantation we will arrive to the Brujo’s pyramid zone, one of the most important religious and politics centers of the Moche culture, which bloomed between 100-750 years A.D. The archeological complex El Brujo it is formed, principally by the pyramids of Old Cao and Huaca Cortada (splitted shrine), also called El Brujo. Upon our arrival our local guide will take us to the interior of the shrine where we will appreciate spectacular friezes showing scenes of naked warriors being taken to execution. In the superior part of the same shrine we will find bloody scenes of sacrificed children and group of important priests of the Moche Elite. Then we will walk into the funeral chamber, a place where were found one of the most spectacular discoveries of our times. A great discovery of the intact body of a Moche ruler that inhabited this pyramid some 1.700 years ago who was named by the archeologist as the Lady of Cao. The mummified rests of the woman who thought that had approximately 25 years old, were covered with gold necklaces, silver, lapizlazuli, quartz and turquoise. The lady’s body shows tattoos representing snakes and spiders, which according to local belief symbolizes fertility and would also reveal her gifts as a shaman. Finally return to the city of Trujillo stopping by the village of Magdalena of Cao to see handie crafts that are produced there and to have a taste of the popular chicha de jora, traditional beverage of this region.
