Day 1°: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado
Upon your arrival from Lima or Cusco, a representative from Mystery Peru will meet you at the airport of Puerto Maldonado. Our representative will be waiting at the arrival gate, holding a board on which your names will be written. Once you had met our representative, you will be conducted to our office located ten minutes away from the airport. While enjoying your first taste of the forest in our gardens we will ask you to pack only the necessary gear for your next few days, and leave the rest at our safe deposit. This helps us keep the boats and cargo light. After packing the necessary stuff, we will board our jungle truck and then will drive on a bumpy dirt road for about 20 kilometers till the local port located at the Native Community of Infierno. Here we will have some free time to stretch our legs and later on we will board a motorized canoe. Our motorized canoe will navigate up river for about 50 minutes till the zone where our jungle lodge is situated. During this you will really catch your first glimpse of the Tambopata rainforest, observing lush vegetation, native houses, and with a little luck you may stumble upon some birds and animals. A box lunch will be provided on board. Upon your arrival at Posada Amazonas Lodge, the manager of the lodge will welcome you with a refreshing jungle drink and then will provide information about the lodge and the excursions that will take place during your stay.
Our first excursion will take place at the CANOPY TOWER, located some 20 minutes away from the lodge. The canopy tower is 30 meters high and allows visitor to see a wonderful panorama of the vast rainforest. It is very common to see from the top of the tower parrots and macaws flying by, so keep your ayes wide open and don’t forget you camera. After some time we will descend and then will walk back to the lodge. Dinner at the lodge. Overnight in Posada Amazonas.
Day 2°: Jungle Excursion
We will have breakfast very early, and then we will head to the river where will take a bout ride for about 30 minutes. Later on we will leave the boat and start a 45 minutes walk into to the forest following a trail that leads to a nice oxbow known as TRES CHIMBADAS. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers. After some time we will get back to mainland and start to walk back to the boat. On the way back our guide will show us some plant and tree species. Once back at the lodge we will take a break, and later on we will go to visit a small clay lick. This clay lick is only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas. From a blind or hide located about twenty meters away you will see dozens of parrots and parakeets. Species such as Mealy and Yellow-headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headed Parakeet are usually seen at this spot. The clay lick is mostly active at dawn, during the late mornings and mid-afternoons. After some time we will return to the lodge. Lunch at the lodge.
In the afternoon we will head back to the river and will catch the boat one more time. This time we will visit an interesting medicinal garden, located just 20 minutes away from our lodge. On this visit we will meet a shaman or healer, the man in charged of this medicinal center. This shaman will guide us through the forest, showing us his medicinal plants and also will explain about their curative properties. Later on we will return to the lodge, just before sunset. Overnight at the Posada Amazonas.
Day 3°: Departure day
At the designated time, our guide will lead you down to our private dock where we will take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Depending on airline schedules, your journey back to the city may require dawn departures. Once in Puerto Maldonado, we will go to our office to pick our luggage and then we will head to the airport.

Accommodation in Posada Amazonas:
Posada Amazonas is located on the banks of the Tambopata River in the grounds of the Community, adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve. It is owned jointly by Rainforest Expeditions and the Ese’eja Native Community of Tambopata. Posada Amazonas is built using a combination of traditional native materials (wood, palm fronds, wild cane and clay) and architecture and modern day eco-lodge technology. The lodge itself consists of a complex of four sections: rooms, dining area and kitchen, relaxation area and internal support facilities. The entire roof of the lodge is constructed using high quality crisneja palm fronds, whereas the floors are of tropical mahogany. The rooms complex is built of four 9 X 24 meter structures with six rooms per facility, for a total of 30 double bedrooms. The rooms are 7 x 4 meters so they can comfortably hold three beds, although they are set up for two. The walls dividing each room are built using cane and clay, and extend from the floor to about 2.5 meters height making each room private. The combination of clay and cane achieves two important objectives: regulating heat and providing a charming final appeareance. However, sounds can be heard from room to room. The side that looks out to the forest does not have a wall or screening of any kind, acting as a large window facing the forest. The reason we have been able to incorporate this "luxurious" design into our lodge is because mosquitos are not really a problem around the lodge clearing and the open section allows for an intimate contact with the rain forest. A second small window on the opposite side, set up very high, keeps the rooms well ventilated. Beds are sized for Americans or Europeans (1.05m X 2.05m) with mosquito nets. Each room has a private bathroom with cold water only. Rooms and bathrooms are separated by drapes. The dining room and lounge is spacy and offers ample area for resting and socializing.
